Recess led by physical education teachers in Elizabeth, NJPosted: June 14, 2011
Students in elementary schools in Elizabeth, NJ, have 20-minutes recess periods that are led by physical education teachers. Recess is held right after lunch. The students also have 45-minutes physcial education classes three or four days per week, depending on grade level.
“It’s one component of a holistic approach the entire district has taken to addressing the childhood obesity epidemic, according to Ryan Hutchins/The Star Ledger. ” Elizabeth has been so successful in the effort that 17 of its 34 schools are among just 275 in the nation being recognized this week by former President Bill Clinton and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.”
