Is supervision of charter schools effective?Posted: May 16, 2011
District of Columbia charter schools, which used to be supervised by the D.C. school board, have been under the supervision of the D.C. Public Charter School Board in the last two years. Washington Post columnist Jay Matthews says that charter schools which aren’t showing good results with students should be closed faster.
Matthews noted that the Center for Research on Educational Outcomes at Stanford University found that “charter school achievement gains were greater in states that did not limit the number of charters that could be authorized.”
“So let’s not limit closing charters, either,” Matthews said.
